EDITOR: An open letter to the El Dorado County community:
Our son and brother, Sidney “Scott” Santana, was involved in a fatal car accident on May 17. While this has been a tragedy, we are so grateful for the love and support of everyone we have come across during this journey.
From the firefighters (both Cal Fire and county) and California Highway Patrol who were on scene and desperately tried to save his life, to the Emergency Room at Marshall Hospital to the ICU staff at Marshall Hospital who cared for him like he was their own son for five days while he was matched for organ donation. Your professionalism and compassion have no limits; each of you is exceptional.
Within moments of our hearing about Scott’s accident, our friends, the staff at Union Mine High School, Scott’s co-workers at Raley’s and his friends gathered around us to pray and comfort us. Thanks to Raley’s and friends we were fed and nourished during those first days.
Our families (we are relocated flatlanders) have always asked us why we moved here 12t years ago, but after seeing the outpouring of love for Scott and the support for our family we are renewed in our decision so many years ago and our family is convinced we made the right choice.
El Dorado County is the finest place to raise a family and we would like to thank everyone for the care, support and generosity we have felt over the last few weeks but mostly, thank you to everyone for being a part of the village that raised Scott to be the fine young man he was.
Sincerely,
DEANNA, RICH and MARISSA SANTANA, MATT McVEY
