I debated on whether to write this or not, but here goes. I am an employee of 21 years with the El Dorado Union High School District. I have held various positions in our chapter union and have not always agreed with the board’s decisions nor the administration’s. However, having been involved at the state level in the California School Employees Association, and seeing what other districts statewide have had to go through to stay afloat, I feel our board and administration have done a fabulous job in guiding our district in this uncharted economic time. EDUHSD has not gone through any layoffs, has not cut educational programs, has had no cuts to the classroom or after-school activities.
I feel bringing in new board members with self-agendas to fulfill is not good timing right now. Todd White may have a lot of money backing him, but that does not give him the expertise in how to run, or direct a $50 something million budget. None of the new candidates has attended any of EDUHSD’s board meetings to my recollection to even begin to understand what it takes to oversee a district of this size. My vote is for the 3 incumbents, Madeline Restaino, Kirby Ehler and Tim Cary.
