Un-American

BOLO — Be On the Lookout — is usually something one associates with police agencies issuing a bulletin to watch out for a person who just committed a major crime. But at the IRS it means Be On the Lookout for Tea Party groups.

Not just Tea Party groups, but “Patriots,” “9/12 Project,” groups concerned about “government spending, government debt or taxes,” ”advocacy/lobbying to make America a better place to live” and “criticize how the country is being run.”

A report by the Inspector General for Tax Administration obtained by media outlets Tuesday said the IRS “used inappropriate criteria to identify applications from organizations with the words Tea Party in their names.” Then one unit sent it up the IRS food chain and that outfit expanded the inappropriate criteria further and even more inappropriately.

“The Determinations Unit developed and began using criteria to identify potential political cases for review that inappropriately identified specific groups applying for tax-exempt status based on their names or policy positions instead of developing criteria based on tax-exempt laws and Treasury Regulations,” the IG’s report stated.

This began in 2010 and continued through 2012.

In addition to tying the applications for tax exempt status up in bureaucratic knots, the questions the IRS asked “it should not have requested” and were “unnecessary,” such as names of contributors and whether any contributor or director has run for political office, “the type of conversations and discussions members and participants had during the activity.”

What in the heck would the IRS want with this information? Monday the National Organization for Marriage said someone leaked its confidential tax info to a gay rights group. In March 2012, the Huffington Post published the names of donors to the pro-marriage group listed in its IRS filing from 2008, according to the Wall Street Journal.

“The IRS has demonstrated the most disturbing, illegal and outrageous abuse of government power,” said Darwin Throne of the Tea Party Patriots of El Dorado Hills Sunday. “This deliberate targeting and harassment of tea party groups reaches a new low in illegal government activity and overreach. President Obama must also apologize for his administration ignoring repeated complaints by these broad grassroots organizations of harassment by the IRS in 2012, and make concrete and transparent steps today to ensure this never happens again. We reject a simple apology that does nothing to alleviate the danger of this happening again. Only immediate and public actions on the part of the IRS and the president will suffice.”

The IRS takes its cues from the top. A group of more than half a dozen Democratic senators wrote the IRS  and demanded it crack down on the Tea Party or it would have officials dragooned before a Senate committee. Is it any wonder that two different IRS commissioners knew about the targeting and yet told Congress that it wasn’t happening and ignored letters of complaint from Republican senators, the minority party?

President Obama expressed outrage over the targeting once an official revealed it by apologizing at a legal conference. If he is really outraged he should fire the IRS commissioner, which he did Wednesday. We congratualte the president for taking a big step toward cleaning up one mess. Let’s just hope the IRS Commisioner, on the job since November 2012, hasn’t already spent $25,000-$40,000 on an official portrait. It shouldn’t take much for Attorney General Eric Holder to find the current and immediate past IRS commissioners in contempt of Congress.

We find the actions of the IRS un-American and anti-democratic.

These are the tactics and actions learned on the streets of Chicago. Community agitators use fear and smear to advance themselves. Where the average IQ is in the low 70's as in the obama base it is very effective. The claim that he is disconnected from this is only believable to those who voted for "revenge". The people behind this criminal abuse of government power are the true believers in activist government in order to "transform" the nation. They are obama.

What if we find out the AP wiretaps were directed at whistleblowers at the IRS, DOJ, State Dept and the EPA?

Bummer keeps repeating, "he knew nothing, knows nothing, Bush did it, He was golfing, he had to leave for another fundraiser, Hillary was supposed to handle that, he wasn't aware, he is angry too, I found out when you did", "how dare they follow his orders"! Liberalism on display nationally while here in an already wrecked beyond repair liberal melt down state liberal nut case legislators are focused on "trans-gender" bathrooms for liberal invented and encouraged confused gender school children, providing more welfare and free lunch schools for the growing entitlement govt. dependent liberals and writing law prohibiting the detention of illegals by law enforcement in the state and letting as many prisoners out as they can for all the great hire-a-felon jobs waiting.

"Treasury inspector general J. Russell George testified during the hearing that no evidence indicated the additional review of the 300 groups was politically or ideologically motivated. He blamed the incident on mismanagement. Of the 298 groups subjected to additional review, 72 were 'tea party' groups, 11 were '9/11' groups and 13 were 'patriots' groups, according to the inspector general’s report." inspector george was nominated for the post by president george w. bush.

kgg, perhaps you haven't seen the "apology" issued by the IRS themselves. "The IRS has admitted it flagged applications from groups with "tea party" or "patriot" in their names." I realize the tactic of the obamabots, when caught doing what corrupt Marxist regimes do, deny it and blame Bush. I do appreciate what the left has been forced to do in order to deny that obama and the left are corrupt, they have taken up the defense that he is just dishonest and incompetent. The fact is you know he is corrupt and you don't care, what ever it takes to force leftism on the free world is ok with you. You just don't want everyone else to know he is corrupt. This is just the fairness doctrine being implemented by the obama gestapo.

cookie 65: you might have a tad bit more credibility if your rebuttal didn't attack the messenger. my letter pointed out the truth - your tactics don't change that.

kgg, another tactic popular among the room temperature IQ obama voters is to make it about the Inspector General Russell George who informed a deputy at the Treasury Department in June of 2012 about the probe into the IRS. It isn't about Inspector Russell George. It is about this corrupt Chicago thug machine attempting to silence opposition prior to an election. And knowing it was happening and doing nothing to stop it. The deputy he informed was a top aide to tax cheat timmy geithner. Talking about my "tactics" is rich coming from the likes of you. If my tactics are less than admirable what would you call using the IRS to silence, harass and intimidate people opposed to the destruction of this country? Me telling you how clueless you are is not a tactic, it is meant to help. You have the option to trade your freedom for a handout but you do not have the option to trade MY freedom for your handout.

kgg, let me offer you some information that you won’t find at the sites that provide you with you leftist talking points and duck march orders. This particular episode of Marxism on parade goes back to the Supreme Court ruling that is was every bit as legal for those who are pro-business and pro-freedom to contribute to political causes as it is for those who are anti-business and anti-freedom. Also known as Citizens United. The petulant little man-child took time in his State of the Union show to engage in banana republic type behavior directed at a co-equal branch of government so far below the office of the POTUS that it was more fitting for a bunch of 7th grade girls than it was for the leader of the free world. That little episode was throwing down the gauntlet for all the lifetime fully entrenched leftists within the federal government. Especially since the braindead left blame that ruling for handing the left the historical loses in 2010. This episode within IRS is to assure that the playing field again gets tilted back in their favor.
