EDITOR: I do not have children in the Placerville Union School District, but I know several families who do.
I recently read "Panther Press," the monthly newsletter put out at Markham Middle School and, specifically, the section titled "Sincerely, Mr. Smith" written by Principal Mr. Smith.
He gave thanks to many, many local groups and individuals, two and a half pages worth, for the successes of the students and the school itself. He even thanked his wife and kids for understanding how important his own job is to the school.
It is wonderful that so many of our community members (churches, police department, etc.) are involved with our local schools and for that we should all be thankful. However, I believe Mr. Smith forgot to thank a very important, if not vital, group of people of whom without, Markham Middle School would not function at all -- the parents. Parents who endlessly volunteer time at school, endless hours of helping with homework, driving their kids to and from school functions and supporting them in their activities on a daily basis, not to mention financial contributions that parents are always "reminded" to support their child's school in.
Shame on you, Principal Smith, for forgetting the most crucial people in a child's success, the parents.

Wow Ms. Foster- shame? Are you sure the thank you letter that Mr. Smith wrote was shameful? Shame is defined as, "to bring dishonor or disgrace on". It sounds like he wrote a nice letter to thank the community for their support. Has he never thanked the parents prveviously for their contributions? I'm only guessing, because like you, I do not have children int he district. Perhaps you could overlook his transgression (overlook - make allowances for, let someone off with a pass)?
