Where the money is
Median incomes there are in the $100,000 range.
There's a reason our federal government is a high cost operation. It looks like a big chunk of the 1 percent of the country's high income people are in the Washington, D.C., area and likely have some affiliation with the federal government.
The other four of the top 15 are New Jersey and New York counties and one county in Colorado. The former two indicate a Wall Street connection. One expects Wall Street people to be among the financial elite, but the surprise was the counties that are within commuting distance of our nation's capital.

Is this really a surprise? I've known for decades that Virginia and Maryland benefit from the salaries of government workers. Yes, even during the tenures of Nixon, Bush I and Bush II -- why is this suddenly of interest to the editorial staff at the MtDemocrat? Oh, right, according to Tea/Republicans our government is out of control and Obama is president. Now I understand.
