Paul Schrader and Deanna Pine met at Sunshine Market in Sioux City, Iowa in the mid-1950s, where Deanna was employed.
On Aug. 25, 1962, the couple married in the city they met at St. Boniface Church. On Saturday, Aug. 25 of this year, the couple will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with close family at Cielo Estate Winery in Shingle Springs. According to Lori Schrader, 49, one of couples’ daughters, family members expected to be at the anniversary are her and sisters Cathy, 46, from Corvalis, Ore., Christy, 45, from Cameron Park and son Paul, 44, from Pollock Pines.
Along with their four adult children, the Schraders have six grandchildren: Brandy, 23; Dylan 21; Jacob 19; Sadie 16; Jared 14 and Samson, 11.
Shortly after the Schraders married, the couple moved to California. They first lived in Woodland, where Lori was born. Then the couple moved to Grass Valley where the remaining children were born before settling down in Placerville in 1976.
Paul, now 73, was in the Navy from April 1958 to June 1962. After he left the Navy, he worked as a manager for Safeway until his retirement in December 1995. Deanna, now 70, has volunteered at the Upper Room in Placerville since June 2002. Deanna worked as secretary for St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Placerville from 1984 to 1996.
In their spare time, Paul and Deanna like to go bowling. Paul likes to golf once a week, and Deanna enjoys reading crime and mystery novels. Paul also volunteers his time with the Knights of Columbus at St. Patricks Catholic Church. Deanna also works as a volunteer at the church as well.

Seventeen years ago I became a Schrader. I married Paul and Deanna's son, Paul. I can't express enough how thankful I am to be apart of this family. Paul and Deanna are the definition of role models. Their love and respect for each other is amazing and their devotion to their family is inspiring. Im so proud to be a Schrader and I love you, Paul and Deanna, very much. Love, Terri
