The artists of Placerville Arts Association have had a very busy and artful 2013. Many of these artists have been recognized locally, state-wide and nationally for their artistic distinction by receiving awards, being published in national magazines, and their art hanging in a variety of venues including local art galleries, universities, businesses and many homes.

This year’s PAA Fall Member Show featuring award-winning artists will be open from Dec. 2 through Dec. 6 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. daily at the El Dorado County Government Center, 360 Fair Lane in Placerville.

This show will have diverse two-dimensional works of art from realism to abstract and experimental. Works of art in watercolor, oil, pastel, charcoal, acrylic, pencil, photography, digital art and mixed media in categories of seascape, landscape, portrait, still-life, animals, miniature and experimental will hang on the walls of this striking venue.

The public is invited to enjoy this free event. Come and be enriched. It’s also an opportunity to purchase art for your home or as gifts as the holidays draw near.

PAA is excited to have Dale Laitinen, a local but nationally-known artist, as this year’s show judge.

For 35 of the last 40 plus years of painting, Laitinen has been working in watercolor. He is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society and Watercolor West. He is a past juror of many national and regional exhibitions, including Watercolor West, Kentucky Watercolor Society, Red River Watermedia Show and many others.

A native of northern Minnesota, Laitinen has lived, moved and traveled across the American West and this figures prominently in his work.

One of the signatures of a Laitinen painting is the long view with the natural forms of the topography being foremost. His works extend to the interaction between structures such as roads, dams, canals, powerhouses and the natural landscape.

For additional information about Laitinen, his work and upcoming workshops visit his Website dalelaitinen.com/

One of the purposes of the Placerville Arts Association is to promote visual arts in the local community through art shows, exhibitions, art demonstrations, workshops, scholarships and art-oriented field trips.

Throughout this past year, the PAA’s 200 members have sponsored a variety of art events, including two member art shows, the national Mother Lode Art Exhibition, a 3-Dimensional 3X3 Show and a meet the artist’s Studio Tour.

El Dorado County has a large population of exceptionally talented artists. Through their sponsored events and monthly general meetings, PAA desires to educate, enrich and inspire the county residents to grow in their appreciation of a wide variety of art media and forms — and hopefully, develop their own innate artistic abilities.

At the close of the show, the winner of the drawing for a donated artwork will be announced. Proceeds from the drawing go towards PAA’s scholarship program which supports an annual scholarship for a local graduating senior continuing in art studies.

Even though the membership show is professionally judged, the visiting public is encouraged to cast a vote for their favorite work of art for the People’s Choice Award.

PAA members invite the public to attend and enjoy the PAA show and cast a vote.

PAA invites young or old, beginning artists as well as advanced artists and patrons of the arts to visit the Website to get current information about meetings and events, and to learn about the artists and their work. New members are welcome throughout the year.
