art on the divide 725The members of Art on the Divide Cooperative Gallery announce an exhibit “Visions of the West” that will feature western- and Native American-themed art in association with the first Cowboy Gathering on the Georgetown Divide.

Two- and three-dimensional art created by local gallery artists and invited artists throughout El Dorado and Placer counties will be displayed Oct. 3-29 in the cooperative gallery.

This show is open to artists whose work reflects a western or Native American way of life.

A committee of artists from the gallery will select the pieces for display from among the submissions. A “People’s Choice” award will be recognized by a ribbon at the end of the show.

Those artists who wish to enter their artwork can find instructions and the entry form at artonthedivide.com. The deadline for entries is Aug. 30.

The Cowboy Gathering, presented by the American River Folk Society is taking place on Oct. 18 and 19 at various locations on historical Main Street in Georgetown.

Well-known regional and national performers are scheduled on both days and there will be poetry, storytelling and music.

Barbara Gerard-Mitchell, a member of the gallery, painted the colorful image of a cowboy on his horse that was chosen to illustrate the announcement poster for this event. Pat Stoddard Aragon’s artwork was selected for the event poster and program that will be on display at a later time.

The public is invited to visit the gallery during October to view “Visions of the West,” attend an opening reception on Oct. 12 and participate in the fun events, Oct. 18 and 19 during the Cowboy Gathering.

In addition to the art exhibit, the gallery garden will likely be a small venue for a performer or two. Keep up-to-date on events by checking both the AODC Website at artonthedivide.com and cowboygathering.org.

Art on the Divide Cooperative Gallery is located in a historic building at 6295 Main St. in Georgetown.
