The Sierra Pastel Society is pleased to announce its Signature Member Art Show on display through July 27 at the El Dorado Arts Council (EDAC) ArtSpace Gallery, 459 Main St. in Placerville. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The signature show is put on every other year in odd years by members who have achieved excellence in the medium and achieved signature status.

The Sierra Pastel Society motto is “Bringing Brilliance to Art and Life” and this outstanding show certainly does reflect that idea.

For the show the members are honored to have Urania Christy Tarbet, a noted pastelist, teacher and author who resides in Pollack Pines, serve as judge. She attended the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles and was influenced by the French Impressionists and by her famous artist cousin, Howard Chandler Christy.

Besides being an avid and prolific pastel and oil painter, Tarbet’s lengthy and rich résumé includes founder and president emeritus of the International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS). She is a member of the IAPS Master Circle.

Tarbet is listed in Who’s Who of American Artists. She is a signature life member of Pastel Society of America and serves on the advisory board of the “Pastel Journal” magazine.

She has conducted extensive workshops throughout the United States, Canada, Italy and Scotland.

Her series of interactive workshops called MyArtTutor are presented by blogs over the Internet through myarttutor.com. She is the much published author of many books on art and numerous magazine articles.

The Sierra Pastel Society, formed in 1999, is made up of more than 100 professional and amateur artists throughout the local region.

Pastels as a medium is very popular with painters and becoming more so among collectors and the general public.

Admission to the exhibit is free and all the paintings are for sale.

For more information call Paul Harman at 530-889-0549 or EDAC at 530-295-3496 or go to the Sierra Pastel Website at SierraPastelSociety.net.
