The Amelia Earhart Peak remained an unnamed peak until 1967 when Gordon H. Palmer along with members of the Rocketdyne Mountaineering Club, The 99s and the National Geographic Society ended a two year effort and obtained approval from the Board of Geographic Names in Washington D.C. to name the peak “Mount Amelia Earhart.”
There was an ascent of the peak on July 2, 1967 by members of the Rocketdyne Club and a representative of The 99s. This was the 30th anniversary of Earhart’s loss, and the official naming of the peak occured on that day…
The peak itself is located near Ireland Lake, and Ireland as the first land spotted by Earhart on her famous solo trans-Atlantic flight in 1932. The peak is also located near four other mountains with names of women pilots who were contemporaries of Earhart; Mount Evelyn, Mount Bernice, Mount Helen and Mount Florence…
Frank Nicholson Other Radio Stars At Motor City
As an added feature to the regular Motor City dance Saturday night, July 24th, Frank Nicholson, with his “Inquiring Mike” and assistants from the California Radio System, will be present to entertain the many fans at this popular ballroom, which is located 3 miles east of Placerville on the Lake Tahoe highway.
Among the specialty numbers will be Don Powers, baritone, a featured network attraction, and return engagement of Eddie and Irene, two little blues singers, who are featured on the California Radio System; Frank Nicholson with the inquiring microphone from the “Merry-go-round” of KFBK.
As a special attraction, according to Rollie Barton, publicity manager for Motor City, there will be a surprise radio act, which those “in the know” declare, is more fun than a box of monkeys.

Congressman Caminetti has scored another and a crowning success. The Hydraulic Mining Bill, in which his District is more largely interested than in any other, has been engineered and pressed to a successful vote, — more than two-thirds majority. IT is a splendid triumph for every industry of Northern California and has been won against much adverse criticism, prejudice and treachery.
In the language of the “Record-Union” even the opposition press is forced to say: “The California Congressman has by his success in pitching this measure proved that he has the capacity beyond that which was placed to his credit when he was a candidate, and possesses the ability backed by perseverance and indomitable resolution and fixity of purpose that are of an order of effectiveness which wins success and deserves commendation.”
