The song was actually the B-side on the Decca recording of “Thirteen Women.” The song “Thirteen Women” did not hit the big time but when “We’re Gonna Rock Around the Clock” was used in the movie the “Blackboard Jungle” it became a hit with a great guitar solo by Danny Cedrone.


Look up

It’s not comets that will be rocking on July 28 and 29 but meteors with the Alpha Capricornids active through Aug. 10. The peak night is July 28 to 29. This is not a strong shower and only produces around five meteors per hour but they can be bright fireballs. So rock around the clock and check out the night sky.


Good shows

It will be rocking at Manzanita Kitchen and Events, 4232 Fowler Lane, Suite 101, in Diamond Springs, on Friday, July 25 from 6-11 p.m. with two super star acts — Jonny Mojo and the Cash Prophets. The Cash Prophets — The Gospel According to Johnny Cash pays tribute to Johnny Cash and his music in 1950 Sun Record era recordings. Jonny Mojo always brings it and will be going acoustic while dinner is served. Tickets for the farm to table dinner and music that start at 6 p.m. are $35. Tickets for the Cash Prophets are $12 pre-sale and $15 at-the-door. Doors open at 8 p.m. for the Cash Prophets performance.

By the way Bob Rawleigh is performing at Manzanita on Saturday, July 26 from 7-10 p.m. Farm to table small plates are available for purchase along with local wines and brews. Pre-sale tickets are $8 and at-the-door are $10. Call 530-344-7613 for a reservation.


Friday fun

David Girard Vineyards, 741 Cold Springs Road in Placerville, presents Todd Morgan and the Emblems on Friday, July 25. The new patio area is a delightful place to listen to music and have some wine and snacks. The concert is at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 each or free for wine club. Paella on the patio

Enjoy Paella on the Patio at Gwinllan Estate, 7060 Fairplay Road in Fair Play, on Saturday, July 26 from 6-10 p.m. The evening starts with light appetizers and then a paella dinner with the beautiful wines crafted at Gwinllan. Cost is $15 per person for wine club members and $20 for non-members. Call 530-723-2879 to attend.


Visit the alley

Try exploring the alley between the Kincade Gallery and the Cary House in Placerville and discover a charming spot to hear some great music — the Alley, 262 Main St. On Saturday, July 26 Hickory Wind will be playing from 7-10 p.m. Band members are Cheryll Kent on vocals and guitar, Fred Kent on vocals and bass, Dave Wren on pedal steel guitar, Larry Park on lead guitar and Jamie Faw on drums.


Time to relax

On Sundays take a drive to Lava Cap Winery, 2221 Fruitridge Road in the Camino area, not just for the award-winning wines, but for music. Fun Fat Tuesday

To round out the spectacular musical week stop by Powell’s Steamer Company and Pub, 425 Main St. in Placerville, for Fat Tuesday on July 29 at 7 p.m. This is a fun Cajun inspired evening with lively music by a stellar line up to match the meteor shower and some New Orleans inspired menu items.
