At a glance: Fall is almost here

For those patiently waiting for the change of seasons at least the calendar is doing its part. On Saturday, Sept. 22 at 7:45 a.m. autumn arrives. This is the autumnal equinox for the northern hemisphere and the sun is crossing over the equator making daylight and night almost equal that day. For the northern hemisphere residents the daylight hours will be shorter and fall weather should be coming soon.

 

Good golf

Fortunately Wednesday, Sept. 19 will be a perfect day for the El Dorado County Chamber of Commerce Charity Golf Tournament at Apple Mountain Golf Resort in Camino. Registration is at 11 a.m. and the shotgun start is at 12:30 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Family Connections El Dorado. To play golf call the chamber at 530-621-5885. Entry fee includes: green fees, cart, range balls, closest to pin, longest drive, furthest from the pin, prizes, free beverages on the course, lunch and dinner.

 

Great evening

Wednesday, Sept. 19 is also another great fundraiser for a great cause. The Pollock Pines-Camino Rotary Club is having “Evening in the Orchard” at Rainbow Orchards, 2569 Larsen Drive in Camino, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Funds from the night of appetizers, tri-tip dinner, music, prizes and raffles will help buy dictionaries for third grade students and support other Rotary projects. Tickets are available at Rainbow Orchards, Pollock Pines Umpqua Bank and ShipShapeUSA gift boutique. Pet pictures

The El Dorado Camera Club’s monthly speaker at the Thursday, Sept. 20 meeting is Lisa VanDyke. She will be offering tips and tricks of pet photography. Good time

Spoiled Rotten Women’s Boutique and Art Gallery, 3330 Cameron Park Drive, Suite 1000, in Cameron Park, is having Artists, Authors, Food and Wine and Good Friends on Friday, Sept. 21 from 5 to 8 p.m. This special night will feature Chris Pedersen author of the delightful children’s book “The Prisoner of Carrot Castle,” photographer John Getchel, author Kathryn Mattingly, painter Kristen Breedlove, Susan Barnes and artist Robin Tomlinson, will be featured. Crush time

Toogood Estate Winery, 7280 Fairplay Road in Fair Play, invites the public to “Come Crush with Me” on Saturday, Sept. 22. The day includes learning how wine is made, a vineyard tour, learning about harvesting, a crush pad tour, fermentation steps, tasting library wines and a barbecue lunch, plus a bottle of wine. Tripping in Bordeaux

Crystal Basin Cellars, 3550 Carson Road in Camino, is having a Stroll Through Bordeaux on Saturday, Sept. 22. The journey pairs up a food dish with each of the five Bordeaux wines. There is no charge to wine club members and $5 to the public. John Martin is playing music in the late afternoon on the Bistro patio. Olive oil tasting

Miraflores Winery, 2120 Four Springs Trail in the Pleasant Valley area, is not only serving its wonderful four course luncheons on the Vineyard Patio on Saturdays and Sundays it is having an olive oil tasting with Orietta Gianjorioon Saturday, Sept. 22 at 1 p.m. The charming and knowledgable Gianjorio is a renowned member of the UC Davis Olive Oil Taste Panel and she will cover what to look for in olive oils. Fall fun

Placerville is celebrating Oktoberfest on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 3 to 8 p.m. with a full lineup of fun things to do — music, wiener dog races, servers races, costume contest, children’s games, beer-related games, Bavarian dance demos, a silent auction and sausages, sauerkraut, strudel and beer. Fundraiser

On Saturday, Sept. 22 the nice folks at The Pine Lodge, 6231 Pony Express Trail in Pollock Pines, and the Clamp-ets are having a special fundraiser for Emily O’Meara. She lost her foot this summer in a boating accident. There will be a spaghetti feed and raffle to help this young mother and he family. Raffle tickets will be available for pre-sale for those who can not make the event. To help out with prizes call Debbie or Echo at 530-644-2413.

Georgetown Founders Day is Sunday, Sept. 23 on Main Street in Georgetown. This a a family-fun event with a parade, craft and food vendors, information booths, a community fundraiser walk and more. Rhône tasting
