Escabar_MimiWe thought it was hot last week, well on July 10, 1913 it was 134 degrees F in Death Valley. That makes the low 100s sound cool. Anyway, there are plenty of cool things to do in El Dorado County even if it does get really hot.

Fundraiser

The nice folks at Crystal Basin Bistro, 3590 Carson Road in Camino, are having a fundraiser for Michael Bailey Jr. on Wednesday, July 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. He was hurt in a fall and the fundraiser will help with recovery and therapy expenses. There will be food, beverages, music, silent auction and door prizes. Cost is $20 in advance at Crystal Basin Cellars, 3550 Carson Road, and $25 at the door. For more information visit crystalbasin.com.

Mraz mixer

The El Dorado Hills Chamber of Commerce is having a ribbon cutting and mixer at Mraz Brewing Company, 2222 Francisco Drive, Suite 510, in El Dorado Hills, on Wednesday, July 10 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Stop by for appetizers and, of course, some locally crafted beers. Party time

Colibri Ridge Winery and Vineyard, 6100 Gray Rock Road in Fair Play, is celebrating its ninth anniversary on Saturday, July 13 and Sunday, July 14 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Naturally, there will be wine tasting and the release of the 2008 Estate Viognier and the 2007 vintage of the renowned Rufous Red but there will also be gourmet grilled cheeseburgers with sautéed mushrooms in a red wine reduction, extraordinary caramelized onions and a choice of various cheeses. Cool cave

More wine fun in Fair Play can be found at Winery By The Creek, 8085 Perry Creek Road, at a very special Salon Tasting in the wine cave. The tasting will feature a flight of six wines crafted in the French style and paired with artisan cheeses and charcuterie plate in the cool cave. Winemaker Charles B. Mitchell will share stories about his more than 25 years of winemaking and traveling experiences and maybe share how to uncork sparkling wines using a saber. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 530-620-2402.

Return engagement

Joe and Joy Littel are visiting Placerville to perform at Music in the Courtyard, Fountain Plaza Courtyard, 312 Main St., on Saturday, July 13.
