The Sutter Creek Theater, 44 Main Street in Sutter Creek, presents the Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash in concert on Sunday, June 1 at 6 p.m.

Mark Stuart, a songwriter, formed the band in 1995. The music sounds like Dwight Yoakam, the Derailers, Dale Watson, Robert Earl Keen and the Mavericks. They are not a Johnny Cash tribute band but offer home-grown country, blues and Americana.

“We’ve never tried to imitate anyone, it’s always been about honoring the musical ideals of our heroes,” said ┬áStuart who was given permission to use the band’s name by Johnny Cash himself. Stuart has shared the limelight with such performers as Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Willie Nelson, George Jones, Lucinda William, and Steve Earle.

Opening for Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash is Million Dollar Giveaway, a country duo from the Sacramento Valley featuring Ryan Thompson (vocals and guitar) and Nick Carvajal (guitar, suitcase, harmonica and vocals). They play home-grown country, blues and Americana.

Please order tickets through or purchase with cash at Heart & Soul, 42 Main St. in Sutter Creek. They are $15 in advance and $17 at the door

Sutter Creek Theatre provides a culturally rich and engaging environment that fosters an appreciation of the arts while providing wholesome and stimulating entertainment.
