Bluegrass and folk at MontBleu

By From page B5 | February 07, 2014

Bluegrass folk trio The Devil Makes Three will bring its high-energy Americana music mash up to Lake Tahoe’s MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa in a one-night only show on Saturday, Feb. 8.

On tour supporting the new album “I’m a Stranger Here,” the Santa Cruz-based band will appear with special guests the Brothers Comatose.

The show begins at 9 p.m. Tickets are $27.50 in advance and $30 the day of the show and are available through ticketfly.com or the MontBleu box office at 888-829-7630.

Having made a name on the festival circuit, The Devil Makes Three blends acoustic blues and bluegrass, ragtime, rockabilly and country music into a sweeping landscape of highly-textured instrumentation, intricate lyrics and improvisation.

The group’s members are guitarist Pete Bernhard, upright bassist Lucia Turino, and guitarist and tenor banjo player Cooper McBean.

The Brothers Comatose is a rising folk, bluegrass Americana band known for its sing-along, stomp-along acoustic stylings.

Despite the name, the band is anything but Comatose. They’ve been known to toss inflatable alligators into the crowd and hand out chopsticks for audience-percussion-participation.
