Members of the California Retired Teachers Association (CalRTA) gathered at Bob and Maria Bruggerʼs home for a barbecue. The event was highlighted by a presentation from Trout Unlimited.
J.J. Plank and Nate Lischman instructed the group in the skills of fly fishing and some members took a turn casting into the Bruggerʼs swimming pool. Louise and Stan Iverson, members of Trout Unlimited, also assisted.
CalRTA member Patty Kushner commented, “This presentation comes at the perfect time. I just bought a new fly fishing pole and Iʼm really excited to apply what Iʼve learned from J.J.”
Members brought salads and Bob Edwards and Bob Brugger grilled up the hamburgers. At the end of the meal co-president Kathy McCurry introduced Emily Simpson, recipient of a $1,000 college scholarship from CalRTA.
Simpson, whose parents both teach in the Pollock Pines School District, is attending St. Olafʼs College in Minnesota. She is working towards a teaching credential in math and science. Not in attendance was Nicholle Schmidt who received a $ 500 scholarship. She is attending California State University, Chico in pursuit of a career in teaching.
