Cameron Park offers many activities

The Cameron Park Community Services District has many activities for seniors and retirees.

Functional Fitness for Seniors: Exercise class that focuses on flexibility, balance and strength. Exercise will help maintain independence and manage symptoms of pain and illness. The class is held Monday and Thursday mornings from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Next session starts Nov. 5. Monthly fee is $59 for residents and $64 for non-residents. Pre-registration needs to be done and can be done by calling 530-677-2231

What’s Bugging You?: This is a class on figuring out the good and bad guys in the yard. How to control pests, diseases and animals organically and safely for pets and kids. New products on the market, bad products on the market and what to use when. Topics include preventative as well as curative treatments. Handouts will be available on Tuesday, Nov. 6 from 10 to 11 a.m.

Activities: Enjoy playing card games and meeting new people? There is bridge on Mondays from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. and/or Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Mah jong takes place on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month.

Senior game day — Every fourth Tuesday of the month from 10 a.m. to noon in the social room at the community center, 2502 Country Club Drive in Cameron Park. The event is sponsored by the Cameron Park Newcomer’s Club.

Tai Chi is commonly known as moving meditation. An ancient Chinese system that promotes relaxation, balance and overall wellness through slow, circular movements is Saturdays from 10 to 11 a.m.

Special programs:

Coffee, Tea, and Friends sponsored by Visiting Angels invites seniors and caregivers, to a morning of fun, games, and special speakers, while visiting with new and old friends. Come join the fun at 10 a.m. on the second Tuesday of each month. The next gathering will be held on Nov. 13. The topic for that session will be “Senior Scams — What to watch out for and how to protect yourself.”
