It is hard to imagine, but 2013 marks the 17th consecutive Box Lunch event for CASA El Dorado. Each year more than 125 volunteers gather at the Diamond Springs Firehouse at the unheard of hour of 4 a.m. to put together and then deliver over 4,000 lunches. It is an amazing effort.
If ever there was an annual fundraising event that defines the word “community” this is truly it. There are working professionals, mixed in with high school and college students
Local people from all over the Western Slope gather together and form two long assembly lines of over 50 feet each.
Veggie and turkey wraps start at one end to be assembled and then are put together with juice from Barsotti’s, cookies, chips, mints and a card from the children CASA serves thanking each person who buys a lunch to support CASA.
Last year CASA raised more than $35,000 from this event which means its was able to provide a CASA advocate for 25 abused and neglected children who through no fault of their own, have been removed from their homes and end up in some form of foster care.
