Celebrate excellence in nursing

The community is invited to “Honor Your Favorite Nurse” and recognize excellence in nursing at Marshall Medical Center. This recognition helps to provide nursing scholarships for those who serve during our most vulnerable times.

The event proudly sponsored by Union Bank and Marshall Foundation for Community Health will recognize and honor exceptional care provided from members of the nursing service. The community is invited to honor a local nurse, a family member in the nursing service or a nurse who has since passed away.

Each nurse honored and their sponsor will be invited to a tribute reception planned for May 16 at Marshall Hospital in Placerville. Nurses receive special recognition letting them know they are appreciated for their caring and compassionate ways.

The eighth annual celebration recognizes the Mathewson-Bonser Nursing Scholarship recipients who received a total of $20,000 in scholarships during the past year: Raquel Alfaro, ACA — North 2; Debra Beck, RN — ER; Alea Marie Benavides, CPT 1/lab Asst — lab; Kristy Berger, department clerk — OB and ER; Teresa Hinz, ACA/Sec — North 1 and 2; Wendy McCoy, RN — IT; Mary Melton, surgery tech — surgery; Suzanne Milligan, PCA — ER; Cindy Peart, RN — QM and ES; Amanda Seivert, US, MT — North 2 and CM; and Melissa Stoker, CNA, LVN — TCC.

Increased levels of nursing training return to the community each year through the Mathewson-Bonser Nursing Scholarship fund. Drs. John Mathewson and Quentin Bonser had a dream of helping nurses further their education and upgrade their skills. Since its inception in 1990, community partners have offered support of the fund and helped 118 members of the nursing service at Marshall Medical Center receive $168,400 in scholarships in support of that dream.

This year’s committee chair, Patty Bonser-Sanford, RN, asks the community to join together in honoring the devoted and caring nurses in celebration of the exceptional care provided.

To honor the nurse of your choice at Marshall Hospital or elsewhere send $100 for each nurse honored to: Marshall Foundation, PO Box 1996, Placerville, 95667 or donate online at marshallfound.org.
