On Saturday, April 16, the Sacramento based band Nine-8ths Irish will be coming to the Cozmic Café, 594 Main St. in Placerville. The concert is a fundraiser for the River Music Camp that takes place in Coloma annually.
Not just any Irish band, the Nine-8ths crew dishes up the talents of a diverse group of musicians, all of whom are well known on the Sacramento music scene.
Fiddle player Linda Relph is a former California State fiddling champion. Bo Bowen is a former jazz trumpet player who has reinvented himself on the Irish whistle. Guitarist Kathy Barwick is a multi-instrumentalist who has played in a number of bands throughout the years, most recently with the much loved bluegrass band “Mountain Laurel.” Bodhran player and singer Chris Dunlop adds his mastery of this traditional Irish drum. Topping off this talented mix are the beautiful vocals of Brady McKay, who adds grace and warmth to her interpretations of traditional Irish music..
The River Music Camp, formerly known as the American River Music Camp, is in its sixth year of bringing music to the hearts and minds of people young and old.
Over the years the non-profit organization has transformed the lives of its students – whether they want to perform or just simply play for the fun of it.
Recognizing that not all can afford the “music camp” experience, the camp has always strived to provide scholarships to deserving students each year. The proceeds from this concert will go toward the camp scholarship fund.
The Cozmic Café bar offers up a nice mix of local wines and micro-brews served in a comfortable funky atmosphere that is the perfect venue for the enjoyment of music.
Tickets are $15 and are available by calling the Cozmic Café at 530-642-8481.
