Creative minds help children

Assistance League of Sierra Foothills presents Inside the Creative Mind – Author Forum, the first in it Creative Series, scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 10 at the Folsom Community Center.

Three New York Times bestselling authors — James Rollins, John Lescroart and Allison Brennan — will share their creative process.

Guests will enjoy an afternoon of exploration, lunch, author presentations and book signing. An author panel will be moderated by Jeff Ayers, national book reviewer and critic.

Sierra Foothills collaborates with local elementary schools to provide a program that supports children in their developing literacy skills and teaches them to enjoy reading. Choosing authors as its first creative endeavor just seemed natural.

Sierra Foothill’s on-going series will highlight one aspect of the arts and each year feature the talents of well-known artists, musicians, actors, chefs and others who excel in their craft. The organization’s goal is not only to help those in need El Dorado County but also to bring meaningful cultural events to the community.

All proceeds fund philanthropic programs, including signature programs: Operation School Bell, providing new school clothing for homeless and disadvantaged children, and Sports Locker, providing scholarships and equipment for youth interested in participating in organized sports but unable to afford the cost.

In 2012 Assistance League of Sierra Foothills’ volunteer members worked more than 12,140 hours and raised $122,479 for local communities through fundraising efforts, private donations, grants and membership dues.

The Creative Series will be a vital funding component to Assistance League of Sierra Foothills, which annually hosts Gardens of the Hills and Homes for the Holidays tours.

Tickets are $75 (includes lunch) and are available at: The California Welcome Center and Face in a Book in El Dorado Hills; The Bookery in Placerville, Almost Perfect Book Store in Roseville, The Avid Reader in Sacramento and online at sierrafoothills.assistanceleague.org.
