Three Stages in Folsom presents “The Heart of an Irishwoman” on Friday, March 22 to Sunday, March 24.
“The Heart of an Irishwoman” is a visual, audible and musical celebration of strength, courage, passion, great humor; the heart of Ireland and its women from ancient times to the 17th Century and on to the 20th century.
“Our Irish culture matters: we come from it, we are shaped by it, we identify with it, we draw from it and we must celebrate it,” said Margaret O’ Carroll, producer of “Heart of an Irishwoman.”
Sheelagh Cullen, one of the great Irish stage actors of today, weaves the story of the Heart from an Irish perspective — through the writings of Yeats, Synge, Pearse, O’Casey, Merriman, Joyce and many more. Irish letters, great Irish women writings, poetry, letters, and songs make this event complete.
Appearing along with Cullen are Dubliner Laura Solter who brings a blockbluster “torch” voice, straight out of the Irish ballad tradition of women singers which stretches back for centuries; Kerry-born and a former member of the Irish National Folk Theatre, Margaret O’ Carroll on piano; and Bulgarian virtuoso Bella Issakova on fiddle.
A relatively recent production from Kerry Records,”The Heart of an Irishwoman” premiered at Bowers Museum in Santa Ana in May 2012 to rave reviews from the audience.
“The Heart of an Irishwoman” will perform at Three Stages on Friday, March 22 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, March 23 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m, and Sunday, March 24 at 2 p.m.
