Disney letters come to the State Fair

“C-A-L-I-F-O-R-N-I-A – here they come.”

Disney’s iconic California Adventure letters moved into their new home at Cal Expo.

Thanks to the sponsorship from Golden 1 Credit Union, construction crews were hard at work engineering and launching the installation process of the Disney C-A-L-I-F-O-R-N-I-A letters, which stood at the entrance of California Adventure for a decade.

The iconic letters were donated to the Friends of the California State Fair in the fall of 2012. The letters weighing between 5,000 to 13,000 pounds, standing 11 feet, 8 inches tall each,
are permanently positioned in their new home outside the Main Gate at Cal Expo in time for the opening of the 160th State Fair on July 12.

Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) also contributed to this exciting project. SMUD’s commercial lighting experts assisted in identifying and securing energy-efficient LED lights for the letters, provided technical advice on the fixtures and assisted in securing special rebates and incentives to help fund the installation. The permanent lighting will be installed after the fair closes.

The 2013 California State Fair is July 12 to 28 at Cal Expo, 1600 Exposition Blvd. in Sacramento. Visit bigfun.org for more information.
