El Dorado Musical Theatre (EDMT) will hold auditions for its Encore production, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” Monday, Nov. 18 at 3:30 pm.

Auditions will be held at EDMT’s rehearsal facility located in the El Dorado Hills Business Park at 5011 Golden Foothill Parkway, Suite 4. This is an Encore production for performers ages 13–22, and is by audition only. Not all who audition will be cast.

Traditionally most productions of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” include a children’s choir in addition to the cast. The children’s choir will feature performers ages 9-13 and is also by audition only. Not all who audition will be cast. Children’s Choir auditions will take place Saturday, Dec. 7 at 9 a.m. at the EDMT rehearsal facility.

The Biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes to vibrant life in this delightful musical parable. Joseph, his father’s favorite son, is a boy blessed with prophetic dreams. When he is sold into slavery by his jealous brothers and taken to Egypt, Joseph endures a series of adventures in which his spirit and humanity are continually challenged.

He is purchased by Potiphar where thwarting advances from Potiphar’s wife lands him in jail. When news of Joseph’s gift to interpret dreams reaches the Pharaoh (wryly and riotously depicted as Elvis), Joseph is well on his way to becoming second in command.

Eventually his brothers, having suffered greatly, unknowingly find themselves groveling at the feet of the brother they betrayed but no longer recognize. After testing their integrity, Joseph reveals himself leading to a heartfelt reconciliation of the sons of Israel.

Set to an engaging cornucopia of musical styles, from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock ‘n’ roll, this Old Testament tale emerges as both timely and timeless.

Featuring songs like “Any Dream Will Do,” “Close Every Door” and “Go Go Joseph” this production will be filled with exciting dance numbers and amazing vocals. Performances run Feb. 14-23, 2014, at The Harris Center at Folsom Lake College in Folsom.

All who audition should dress to dance. Cast auditionees should be prepared to sing a song of up to one minute in length to either a background CD, a capella or with the piano accompanist. The children’s choir audition will not have an accompanist — you must perform a capella or to a background CD.

Registration for the cast auditions is underway. Registration for the children’s choir auditions begins Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 8 p.m. Walk-ups on audition day will be accepted if time allows.

For more information about registration, roles or fees, visit edmt.info/JATD.html or call 916-941-SING.
