After a day of swirling, sniffing, tasting and spitting a panel of 29 judges presented the winners competing in the 26th El Dorado County Fair Commercial Wine Competition presented by the Mountain Democrat at a special reception held at the fairgrounds.

The El Dorado County Jody Gray, chief executive officer of the El Dorado County Fair, welcomed the participating wineries, judges and volunteers to the reception and Bob Billingsley, Mountain Democrat columnist, and Mimi Escabar, Mountain Democrat features editor, announced the winners.

Special award winners were: Best of Show Red, Jeff Runquist Wines, 2012 Petit Verdot; Best of Show White, Terra d’Oro Winery, Chenin Blanc, Viognier Blend; Best of Show Rhône, Findleton Estate Winery, 2012 Rhône Island Red; Best of Show Sweet, Russian River Vineyards, Botrytis 2009 Chardonnay; Best of Show Barbera, Findleton Estate Winery, 2012 Barbera; Best of Show Riesling, E&J Gallo Winery, NV Riesling; Frank Herbert Memorial Award (best zinfandel from El Dorado County winery and grapes), Shadow Ranch, 2011 Zinfandel; El Dorado Grape Growers Award (best commercial wine made from El Dorado County grapes) sponsored by El Dorado County Grape Growers, Findleton Estate Winery, 2012 Rhône Island Red; Best of Show Earth Friendly White, Sierra Vista Vineyards and Winery, 2013 Grenache Rosé; and Best of Show Earth Friendly
