Helen Nicole Long and Thomas Aloysius McGettrick, both of Chicago, Ill, have announced their engagement.
The bride is the daughter of David and Roberta Long of Folsom. The bride grew up in the Georgetown area. She is a 1999 Golden Sierra High School graduate. She earned BA and MA degrees in English from DePaul University in Chicago, and a master of library and information science degree from Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pa. She works as a librarian.
The groom is the son of Thomas and Colleen McGettrick of Uniontown, Pa and the late Carole Vazis McGettrick. He earned BA and MA degrees in philosophy and juris doctorate from Loyola University in Chicago. In addition, he earned a BA in philosophy and juris doctorate and a masters of law in tax law from Loyola University in Chicago. He works as an attorney.
The couple met in 2008 through mutual friends. The groom proposed to the bride on Dec. 21, 2012 at Sierra-at-Tahoe.
The wedding is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 11 in Miller Beach, Ind. They are planning a tropical honeymoon. After their wedding and honeymoon, the couple plans to continue residing in Chicago.
