Experience a unique culinary experience at Sutter’s Fort

To the delight of history enthusiasts and food and wine lovers throughout the region, Friends of Sutter’s Fort is proud to present a unique culinary experience — “Feast at the Fort” on Saturday evening, Sept. 22.

Previously known as “A Taste of History,” this is the third year for this signature event for Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park (SHP).

“Feast at the Fort” guests will enjoy a satisfying four-course, sit-down dinner prepared by Sacramento’s top chefs amid a beautiful setting inside the historic walls of Sutter’s Fort SHP.

With KFBK’s Kitty O’Neal as the celebrity emcee, the historic food preservation technique of curing — popular in the heyday of Sutter’s Fort — will be a special focus this year and will be showcased in newly-created recipes using vibrant local ingredients.

When they first arrive, “Feast at the Fort” guests will be greeted to the welcoming aroma of coffee beans roasting over a fire pit. They will be treated to scrumptious appetizers while enjoying local wine, beer, coffee and tea tastings.

Guests will also have the unique opportunity to watch and interact with chefs as they prepare their culinary creations in period facilities such as outdoor fire pits or in the historic kitchens and on-site bakery.

With local wines and beer paired with the various courses that are served family-style this year, the amazing dishes will be created by chefs from popular restaurants such as Café Vinoteca, Ella Dining Room and Bar/The Kitchen, Mulvaney’s B&L, Spataro and Ten22 Restaurant.

In addition, the meals will be served by talented volunteers from Plates Café & Catering, a special endeavor launched by St. John’s Shelter Program for Women and Children.

With an international flair representative of the types of music enjoyed by emigrants who first came to Sutter’s Fort, live acoustic music will entertain guests and set a lively and festive mood throughout the culinary experience and silent auction.

At the close of the evening, each participant will receive a complimentary goodie bag that includes an event program and special keepsake items.

On Saturday, Sept. 22, “Feast at the Fort” begins at 6:30 p.m. with dinner served at 7:30 p.m at Sutter’s Fort, 2701 L St. in midtown, Sacramento.

With limited seating and based on its growing popularity in previous years, a sell-out is expected. The ticket cost is $85.

For tickets or information about donating silent auction items  to “Feast at the Fort” visit suttersfort.org or call 916-323-7626.

“Feast at the Fort” would not be possible without the generous contributions provided by the following businesses and organizations: Bogle Vineyards, Boeger Winery, Café Vinoteca, California State Parks, El Dorado Coffee and Tea Co., Ella Dining Room and Bar/The Kitchen Restaurant, Midtown Business Association, Mulvaney’s B&L, Plates Café & Catering, Rail Bridge Cellars, Ruhstaller Beer, Sacramento Municipal Utility District, Spataro, Ten22 Restaurant, The Sutter District and Whole Foods Market.

“Feast at the Fort” is a fundraising event for Friends of Sutter’s Fort, a nonprofit cooperating association that supports Sutter’s Fort SHP and is operated by California State Parks. The mission of Friends of Sutter’s Fort is to the support the interpretive and educational programs at Sutter’s Fort SHP.
