On Saturday, Sept.1, Sheila Hill invites the public to celebrate her five years of ownership of Powell’s Steamer Co. and Pub.
The restaurant at 425 Main St. in Placerville features seafood and pasta with 24 draft beers and more than 20 different wines.
“We’re going to have $5 beer and appetizer specials, a special band to entertain in the evening and our prime rib dinner special,” said Hill. The beer and appetizer special includes a pint of Pabst Blue Ribbon or Boont Amber Ale and crab cakes or a shrimp croissant sandwich.
“Or other things as we think of them,” said Hill.
The special band includes Larry Park, Val Pease and Eric Hill. “We’ll also have other musicians sitting in all night long,” said Hill.
Hill worked four years at Powell’s for former owners Bob and Judy Powell before buying the restaurant in partnership with her daughter Ericka Hall.
“I managed the bar and, eventually the whole restaurant,” said Hill, 52. “but there’s a lot more to it than I realized, especially in this economy.”
Ericka Hall, who still works as a server at the restaurant, needed more time with her young family, so Hill is now the sole owner.
“Getting into the restaurant business is entering at your own risk, but we’re still here and I still enjoy it. There’s live entertainment almost every night and people stop in on their way to Tahoe. I love meeting new friends every day.”
“We opened on Sept. 1, a Saturday, so it’s great that our five year anniversary is also a Saturday. Come and celebrate with us,” said Hill.
