FLC calls for actors

The Falcon’s Eye Theatre at Folsom Lake College calls for actors from the community to audition Tuesday, Sept. 3 for its fall production of “The Crucible.”

“The Crucible” takes place in the scorching context of the 17th-century Salem witch trials and unravels a tale of human struggles, both internal and external.

It is a community galvanized by fear and suspicion, a wife betrayed by lust, an orphan girl blind with passion and obsessed with revenge, ruthless prosecutors, deluded holy men and covetous neighbors.

Arthur Miller’s script pulses with the destructiveness of socially sanctioned violence, the power of hysteria and rancor, the blindness of zealots, and the heart of one tortured man trying to find his own goodness.

Auditions are held on a first-come, first-served basis on Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the drama lab, PAC-1170, at the Harris Center for the Arts at Folsom Lake College, 10 College Parkway in Folsom. One dollar parking permits are available at kiosks located throughout the parking lots.

Auditioners must prepare a monologue that is no more than 60 seconds long from any play. Please no teleplays or screenplays or passages from novels or song lyrics. Also, please no original writing. This monologue should best portray the actor’s strengths and can be of any genre. This monologue must be memorized.

It is requested that auditioners bring a full-sized photo-headshot and résumé of acting experience, if available, but this is not required.

Callbacks will be Wednesday, Sept. 4  and Thursday, Sept. 5 at  6:30 p.m. by invitation only. Auditioners who are called back will also be asked to audition by way of cold readings from the text.

It is recommended that auditioners be familiar with the story of “The Crucible.” Auditions and call-backs are expected to run until approximately 10 p.m.each night.

Rehearsal dates are Sept. 16 through Oct. 24, evenings and some weekend afternoons. Minor conflicts with these dates are permissible. Significant conflicts with these dates are not allowed.

The performance dates are: Oct. 25 through Nov. 10, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Additional performances are Thursday, Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov.  9 at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 1 at 10 a.m. and Friday, Nov. 8 at 10 a.m.. Performances will be held at the Harris Center at Folsom Lake College in the City Studio Theater.
