Fungus fun at the library

By From page B12 | October 30, 2013

Find a mushroom growing in your front yard and it kind of looks like one you bought in the grocery store. Is it edible? If you eat it will it kill you? Are you living on the gold mine of the food industry?

Before you sauté that fungus in butter and garlic and serve it up to the family, wrap it up in wax paper or a brown paper bag and bring it to Robert Mackler’s presentation “Everything You Want to Know About Mushrooms,” on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 11 a.m. at the El Dorado County Library, 345 Fair Lane in Placerville.

As a mycologist with the Mycological Society of San Francisco for more than 40 years, Mackler has spent a lifetime studying the delicious fungal delicacies. He has taught classes on mushrooms and is a naturalist with the American River Conservancy.

Enjoy a fascinating presentation on mushrooms, followed by Mackler identifying the “good” mushroom specimens you bring at this free community event.

For more information visit the Upcoming Events calendar on the library’s Website or contact the library at 530-621-5540.
