The Sutter Creek Theatre, 44 Main Street in Sutter Creek presents Pierre Bensuan, the Mozart of the acoustic guitar world on Friday, May 9 at 8 p.m.
Since the mid 1970s Bensusan’s name has been synonymous with contemporary acoustic guitar genius. Working in open tuning with his steel strings tuned to the modal, mystical-sounding DADGAD, Bensusan is a composer, singer, and acoustic guitar visionary of passionate intensity with an extraordianrily tender, joyful touch.
His unique musical sensibility combines thnic folk themes and classical melodies, as well as free and fusion styles with Latin and North African rhythyms and vocals in the world jazz scat tradition.
There is a sense of something both playful and serious in his work, an unparalleled sense of freedom in his compositions and his improvisations. His manner of playing defies classification – crossing world, classical, jazz, traditional, folk and more.
None can be isolated as simply “Brazilian,” “Arabic” or “French;” rather, they represent our world in its current state, a world sharing itself, fusing cultures together in ways we have never experienced.
Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 the day of the show. Call 209-267-1070 or visit suttercreektheatre.com for more information.
