El Dorado and Vista high school students

The counseling office reopens on July 11. Counseling office hours will be from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (closed during lunch hour from noon to 1 p.m.). Counselors will not be available until Aug. 1.

Appointments without a counselor are available from July 18 through July 23. Registration forms are available on-line (see Website above), in the counseling office or can be mailed upon request.
Appointments with a counselor are available from July 24 through Aug. 6. Call ahead for an appointment time.
New student orientation will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 7, in the large gym, from 5 to 8 p.m. Parent Orientation will be held at 6:15 p.m.
New students may pick up their class schedule at orientation. Returning students may pick up their schedule on Friday, Aug. 3, between 8 a.m. and noon in front of the school’s main office in exchange for a completed emergency card.
Students who do not pick up their class schedule on Aug. 3 can turn in their completed emergency card and pick up their schedule on the first day of school (Aug. 9), between 7:30 and 8:25 a.m. in front of the large gym.
Schedule changes will not be made unless the change involves a course required for graduation. Requests for elective changes will not be accepted. All students must follow the class schedule they receive on the first day of school.
Oak Ridge High School students

The counseling office will be closed for summer break through July 16, reopening July 17 from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Counselors will be available after Aug. 6.
New student registration will take place in room A-1: grades 9 and 10: Aug. 1, 1:30–3:30 p.m. or Aug. 2, 8:30–11:30 a.m.; grades 11 and 12: Aug. 1, 8:30–11:30 a.m. or Aug. 2, 1:30–3:30 p.m.
Students are required to have their transcript, immunization information and proof of residence (voter registration, driver’s license address change, PG&E bill, etc.) available at time of registration. No individual appointments will be possible at this time.
Freshmen and new students will receive their class schedule at the freshman, new student orientation on Monday, Aug. 6, during the designated times: student last name A – K: 3 to 7:30 p.m.; student last name L – Z: 6 to 7:30 p.m.
New parent orientation will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 7, during: student last name A – K: 4 to 5:30 p.m.; student last name L – Z: 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Returning students may pick up their class schedules in the cafeteria on Aug. 8, between 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m., or on the first day of school at 7:30 a.m. To receive their schedules, all students, all grades, must turn in the following: completed emergency card, signed acknowledgment of notification of parent information; signed anti-discrimination/hazing/harassment policy; signed technology user agreement form.
All forms and information are included in the summer packet you will receive in late July.
Schedule changes for returning students may be done by mail. Students should receive a form by mail in mid-June. Drop-in appointments will not be possible at this time. Student pictures will be taken on Aug. 14 and 15.
Ponderosa High School students

Orientation for freshmen, new students and parents is Tuesday, Aug. 7, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. and includes the following schedule: 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. — complimentary dinner on the patio. During this time students can pick up their information packet and class schedules on the patio; 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. — parents will meet with administration in the theater; 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. —freshmen and new students will meet with the activities director, Mrs. Slinger, in the west gym; 6:15 to 7 p.m. — students and parents reunite in the east gym then go to the market place to gather information on ASB discount cards, bus passes, music program, lunch programs, and to purchase yearbooks, purchase PE clothes, purchase UMHS apparel, etc.; Friday, Aug. 10, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. — freshmen and new students are invited to a pool party (students only). Popsicles will be provided.
All students will receive a preview of their courses included in the summer newsletter. Also, returning students can view their schedule on-line by linking to the Parent/Student ABI Access Web page from the UMHS Home Page. Students will receive their class schedule on the first day of school.
Returning students may make course changes in writing by submitting their request to the counseling office before Aug. 1, or by e-mail to [email protected] This request must include the course to be dropped, the course to be added, and the reason for the change request.
Students are to follow the class schedule they receive on the first day of school. No schedule changes will be made during the first week, with the exception of incorrect class placement or an unbalanced academic schedule. Note: A parent’s e‑mail address will suffice for the required parent signature for all course changes submitted by e-mail. Otherwise, a parent signature is required for course changes.
On the first day of school, Aug. 9, all grades (9–12) will report to the west gym at 7:50 a.m. for a welcome back rally. Students are asked to sit with their grade level class.
Independent High School

New students who would like to enroll at Independence High School should contact the registar for an appointment from July 23 to July 27 at the number above. Appointments will be held during the week of July 30 to Aug. 3. The first day of classes is Aug 9, 7:45 am. Schedules will be available for returning students to pick up on the first day of school.
EDUHSD Virtual Acacdemy at Shenandoah

Shenandoah will be closed to July 31, reopening on Aug. 1.
New students who would like to enroll in the academy should contact Mrs. Hanson at [email protected] Students may log on to the academy Website above to download the enrollment packet or contact the academy at the number above.
The District would also like to inform parents and students that when counseling offices are closed, high school transcripts may be obtained from district records at 530-622-2380 or 530-622-5081 ext. 7303.
Work permits are issued by the counseling office at each school site. When the counseling office is closed during summer break, a work permit can be obtained at the El Dorado Union High School District Office, human resources department, Building E, 4675 Missouri Flat Road, Placerville.
Students must present the completed form Statement of Intent to Employ Minor and Request for Work Permit (form B1-1) to receive their work permit. The form may also be downloaded from the district Website home page (edushd.net). If you have any questions regarding work permits, please contact the counseling office of your respective school or call the human resources department at the district office at 530-622-5081 ext. 7228.
The recent passage of law AB 354 requires that all students in grades 7–12 will need proof of a Tdap booster shot. If you have any questions regarding this new law, please contact your doctor’s office or the El Dorado County Public Health Department at 530-621-6100.
