Zia’s, 312 Main St. in Placerville, is presenting Jazz Gitan on Saturday, July 21 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. For more information call 530-642-9427.
Jazz Gitan is an acoustic jazz trio that carries on the tradition of gypsy swing created by Django Reinhardt together with Stephane Grappelli during their domination of the Paris jazz scene in the 1930s.
The music of Jazz Gitan is the swinging jazz of the ’30s and ’40s, plus a cross-section of songs from the modern Gypsy jazz repertoire.
It includes Latin, blues, and original styles combined to create a unique foot tapping and high energy Parisian influenced experience.
The band has performed for all types of venues, events, and festivals both regionally and locally and assuredly provides exciting, engaging music for all to enjoy.
Featuring Don Price, lead guitar and band leader; Ken Billeci, rhythm guitar; Jane Thompson, double bass, their sounds are reminiscent of Alfonso Ponticelli and Swing Gitan, John Jorgenson Quintet, The Gonzalo Bergara Quartet, The Hot Club of San Francisco and Gypsy Groove.
This is a delightful, rare treat for Placerville.
There is no cover charge with a purchase from Zia’s menu of treats. Wine and beer are also available.
