Kirkwood run benefits fire department

The annual 5K, 10K and Kid’s Run on Saturday, Aug. 31 has been taking place in Kirkwood each Labor Day weekend for 33 years.

Presented by the Tahoe Mountain Milers and sponsored by Kirkwood Mountain Resort and the Kirkwood Volunteer Fire Department, the 10K trail adventure run follows single track and dirt road three miles up the mountain to an elevation of 8,200 feet.

The 5K road run includes 1/4 mile of single track with a log crossing. Unique ceramic medals are awarded to all finishers.

For kids, there is a 1/2 mile and a 1 mile fun run. Kids make their own medals. Event day shirts will be available for sale as long as supplies last.

The grand prize drawing for a Kirkwood downhill pass for 2013-14 and a Kirkwood cross country ski pass takes place just before noon. Winners must be present to collect the prize.

Gather family and friends and register online by visiting Event-day registration is $40. Race day registration takes place from 8:15 to 8:45 a.m. on the deck of The Lodge. The kids race kicks off at 9 a.m. with the 5K and 10K to follow.

Net proceeds from the event benefit the Kirkwood Volunteer Fire Department.
