Learn the art of putting color back in photos

This month’s special speaker, Dianne Poinski, will be introducing the members of the Placerville Arts Association to the art of hand-coloring black and white images. You won’t want to miss this one-of-a-kind exceptional photographer and artist.

The public is cordially invited to this demonstration and free event being held on Sunday, Feb. 17 at the El Dorado Senior Center, 935 Spring St. in Placerville. Artists and art enthusiasts of all ages are always welcome.

Years ago, Poinski’s original goal of becoming a CPA quickly disappeared when she took a black and white photography course in college.

After working exclusively for years with black and white images, Poinski was introduced to the art of hand-coloring and found a completely new realm of possibilities.

Poinski prints her black and white photographs on a matte surface paper. PanPastels are carefully applied to each print. This technique is similar to what photographic artists practiced before color film was invented more than 75 years ago.

The time spent on hand-coloring the black and white photographs presents Poinski with opportunities for contemplation. She says that she hopes that she can give back to the viewer a little bit of the calm and inspiration that she experiences while hand-coloring the images.

She has always been inspired by scenes that suggest mystery, serenity and simplicity.

No matter what camera or technique Poinski uses to create her images, her intention is to simply celebrate photography with joy and gratitude.

Must see demonstration

PAA members invite the public to come and see her fascinating demonstration. Perhaps, you, too, will find a whole new joy and realm of possibilities for your art and black and white photographs.

Poinski lives in the Sacramento area and holds a number of workshops throughout the year. To see Poinski’s exceptional art work and for additional information visit  dpoinski.com.

The demo will begin after a short PAA business meeting that begins at 1:30 p.m. After light refreshment and meet and greet time, Poinski will present her demo. The meeting usually concludes about 3:30 p.m.
