The Mother Lode Rose Society is honored to have Dr. John Shaw, an experienced rose grower, exhibitor and horticultural judge present a program on “The Pleasures and Pitfalls of Exhibiting Roses” at its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 1:30 p.m. at the Amador Senior Center, 229 New York Ranch Road in Jackson.

Shaw has been raising roses since 1953. He is a life member of the American Rose Society and has been awarded many prestigious awards from the Northern California Nevada District as well as from the American Rose Society.

He has been an instructor at many horticultural judging schools over the years.

One of the highlights of his rose career was when he was asked to spend a day at Alcatraz surveying rose plants on the Island. It was a great experience for him and others wandering over the off limit portions of the island looking for roses.

This is a great chance for the public to avail themselves for the opportunity to learn about preparing roses and exhibiting them at the upcoming Rose Show, “Going Global with Roses” on Sept. 22 1 to 4 p.m. at the Amador Senior Center, 229 New York Ranch Road in Jackson.
