During 2014, the El Dorado County Library in partnership with the El Dorado County Historical Museum is taking a look back at the 20th century, decade by decade.
Changing monthly, this glance at the past will start in February with a look at the first decade of the last century and end in November when our travel through time will wrap up with a look at the not-so-distant 1990s.
February finds the focus on the first decade of the 20th century. That first leap into the new century saw a presidential assassination, the first flight at Kitty Hawk and the San Francisco earthquake. The initial decade introduced the world to the $1 Brownie camera, the Teddy bear, and the Model T.
So many changes came about in such a short time span, changes that helped to shape the 20th century.
Join the El Dorado County Library in Placerville as it revisits those moments — large and small, global and local, famous and obscure — that defined the far-reaching scope of the 20th century.
Help to recapture those moments and preserve them for future generations, by sharing a cherished memory from your favorite decade. Fill out a “By the Decades: the 20th Century in Reflection” memory sheet, specially created for each decade of the 20th century and return it to the Placerville library, 345 Fair Lane.
Memory sheets are available at the Placerville Library, the El Dorado County Historical Museum at 104 Placerville Drive and online.
