Local artists are featured in KVIE auction

Celebrating KVIE Public Television’s 31 years of creating an accessible venue to bring art into the homes of Northern Californians, the 2012 KVIE Art Auction will showcase more than 300 works of art by emerging, well-known and world-renown Northern California artists.

KVIE’s art curator, D Neath, announced that 12 El Dorado County artists, who submitted art to the annual juried competition, were chosen to be included in KVIE’s Art Auction collection.

Four pieces by Cameron Park artists have been accepted into the auction: “Broken Corral — Big Pine, CA,” a photograph by Sandy Follett; “Monarch with California Poppy,” an acrylic on canvas by Laura Pallatin; “Bike Rack,” a photograph by Wendell Minshew; and “Woods Lake,” a photograph by Douglas Parks.

Twin Bridges artist Jay Weldon’s watercolor, “Hawaiian Color,” will be featured in this year’s auction and was also recognized with a juror award.

Two pieces from Somerset artists accepted into the auction are: “Stockton Marina in the Fall,” a pastel by Judith Perry; and “MP, Cherry Blossom,” an acrylic on board by Leslie Philpott.

Shingle Springs artists John Hennessy and Ramona Kaye Beckwith each have pieces accepted by the auction: Hennessy’s photograph,“Lewis or Clark,” and  Beckwith’s ink on paper, “Bowl of Flowers.” Beckwith’s piece was also recognized with a juror award.

Three El Dorado Hills artists are represented at the KVIE auction with “Quiet Conversation,” an acrylic on paper by Varya McMillan; “Tranquility,” an oil on canvas by Patt Witt; and “Leaves,” a pastel by Matt Lister.

KVIE will hold a preview gala to announce and honor the first place winners in six categories and the Best of Show winner.

At the event, guests can mingle with artists, and try local wines and brews, hors d’oeuvres and chocolate desserts from 20 of the Sacramento region’s finest wineries and restaurants.

The cost is $50 for the preview gala, which will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at the KVIE Studios in Sacramento.

Each artist’s work will be showcased in a live three-day auction broadcast on KVIE (Ch. 6, check local listings) that begins Friday, Sept. 28, 8 to 11 p.m. and continues Saturday, Sept. 29 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 30 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
