El Dorado Musical Theatre presents “Honk! Jr., The Ugly Duckling Musical,” July 6-22, at Three Stages, 10 College Parkway in Folsom at Folsom Lake College.

“Honk! Jr., The Ugly Duckling Musical” is a musical adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen story “The Ugly Duckling,” incorporating a message of tolerance.

”Honk! Jr.” tells the story of an odd looking baby duck, Ugly, and his quest to find his mother. Soon after Ugly is born, he is lured away by a wily Cat who wants to eat Ugly for dinner.

Ugly manages to escape but has no idea how to return home.

Along his way, he encounters a beautiful swan, Penny, tangled in a fishing line. After saving her the two birds fall in love. However, she must return to her flock and fly south for the winter.

Eventually Ugly’s mother finds him frozen in the snow. Her warm tears manage to thaw him out and he awakes as a handsome swan.

Ugly is later reunited with Penny and the two swans decide to live the rest of their days in the same pond as Ugly’s loyal mother.

“Honk! Jr., The Ugly Duckling Musical” is entertaining for all ages. Ticket prices range from $12 to $25 and can be purchased online at threestages.net or by calling the Three Stages box office at 916-608-6888.
