New director and new directions for the Gold Rush Chorus

By April 26, 2011

The Gold Rush Chorus is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Jeffrey Nelson as its new chorus director.

Nelson is well-known both locally and nationally as a choral and orchestral director. He succeeds Ray Rhymer who retired recently after 15 years of directing, teaching, coaching and inspiring the chorus.

With Nelson’s appointment the chorus is restructuring to have a much stronger community focus with plans to strongly support civic, community and local business events. The group will provide a much wider selection of music, appropriate to its new mission.

“We are all about harmony, both in song and as a group of congenial men from teens through seniors. We offer excellent training in singing four part a cappella harmony,” Nelson said.

Singers interested in learning more are invited to call Nelson at 530-622-7893 or chorus president Keith Eckhardt at 530-644-4151. The group is also interested in non-singers who would like to help with advertising, fundraising, youth music encouragement and event planning.

Rehearsals begin for the fall music program on Tuesday evening, May 17, at 7 at the Placerville First Christian Church at 2687 Andler Road in Placerville. All teens through seniors are invited.
