The arrival of spring signals a new look for Mother Nature and is a time to discover new fashions for the upcoming spring and summer seasons.

To help fashionistas find that perfect new outfit the Dogwood Garden Club of Pollock Pines invites the public to enjoy a tea luncheon and fashion show on Thursday, May 24.

The annual Spring Fling Fundraiser, Spring Tea Luncheon will take place at the Smith Flat House, 2021 Smith Flat Road in Placerville, starting at noon.

“The fashion show is during our social time. The attire will be colorful spring and summer wear. The models will just walk around while the ladies have their wine or mimosas or whatever they are going to get,” Mary Bourne, club fundraising chair, said.

The event will feature fashions from Off Broadway, 1245 Broadway in Placerville, modeled by Judy Jackson, Doris Morley, Choral Engstrom, Annie Tornincasa and Cindy Medici.

After the parade of fashions a lunch of garden salad, tea sandwiches, shortbread cookies with lemon curd, fresh berries and tea will be enjoyed. There will be a no-host bar available.

A fashionable flair added to this year’s program is a spring hat contest with a $50 prize for the best  hat. The judge for the hat contest will be Medici.

In keeping with a garden club theme the grand prize in the raffle is an ultimate garden basket valued at $800. The basket includes gloves, hats, thermometer, hand-made bird nest guard, garden clogs, kneeling pad, bird feeder, garden art yard stake and an all-natural secrets to pest control book.

Another basket, valued at $760, includes: gift certificates to Pollock Pines businesses, including a one-month membership and two sessions with a trainer at Snap Fitness in Pollock Pines, a one-hour facial, pedicure and manicure and two bottles of wine.

For information on purchasing raffle tickets contact Sue Granno at 530-644-4261.

Tickets for the luncheon and fashion show are $25 per person.

To attend the event call Bourne at 530-644-4832 or Merle Neil at 530-644-0672.

Proceeds from the event go towards the beautification of Pollock Pines. The club also supports the establishment and continuance of the El Dorado County Library in Pollock Pines, local charities, schools, youth groups and service organizations.

The Dogwood Garden Club of Pollock Pines has been active in the Pollock Pines area since 1961. Donna Morrison is president of the club, Vicki Doyle is vice-president, Judy Jenkins is secretary and Pat Schoggins is the treasurer.
