On Duty: Airman Ian R. Hyzer receives promotion

Air Force Sr. Airman Ian R. Hyzer was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal on March 11, having distinguished himself by meritorious achievement and service during a three-year tour at Royal Air Force, Lakenheath, United Kingdom.

The accompanying citation notes that he made “repeated contributions to unit success, which ultimately led to him being selected to attend a combined forces conference and personal recognition by the Honorable Leon Panetta, Secretary of Defense.”

Hyzer has earned the rank of Staff Sergeant, with promotion expected this summer.

Airman Hyzer has returned stateside to continue his six-year enlistment at Minot Air Force Base, N.D.

He is the son of Nancy Hyzer of Placerville.

His wife, Clarissa, is the daughter of Monica Price of Cameron Park.

He is a 2008 graduate of Independence High School in Diamond Springs.
