Poetry lovers welcome at the library

By From page B2 | November 07, 2012

Calling all poetry lovers. Poetry fans don’t have to write it or even read it to enjoy listening to the melodious cacophony of a poem.

Read a poem by a favorite poet, a poem of your own or just come to listen at the monthly poetry group, Poetry-Off-the-Shelves, the second Wednesday of each month, 6 p.m. at the El Dorado County Library, 345 Fair Lane in Placerville.

Poetry is meant to be spoken out loud for the world to hear; not read silently to yourself, laboriously dissecting each word, rhyme scheme and image, causing you to scratch your head wondering if you missed the point completely.

Poetry can be beautiful and poignant, slipping from the tongue in hushed reverence, or silly and fun, shouted out from somewhere in the vicinity of the stomach.

No more wondering alone or scratching your head, at Poetry-off-the-shelves you can get opinions instead.

Come to the library for poetry and rhyme, meet some new friends and have a good time.

So join us here, with a mind to share, we’ve got poems aplenty and many a chair.

For more information on this free public event visit the Library Programs and Events calendar on the library’s Website or contact the Library at 530-621-5540.
