The Historic Old Sacramento Foundation invites one and all to dress up in their favorite Easter finery — or other historic apparel — to celebrate in high style during the 19th annual “Living History” Easter Bonnet Promenade.
Year after year, visitors of all ages come from near and far to take a leisurely one-hour stroll through the historic boardwalks and cobblestone streets of Old Sacramento.
Women tend to get all dolled up in fanciful dresses, lovely parasols or colorful hats while attire for the gentlemen might include top hats, frock coats, vests and trousers with a walking stick and watch fob (pocket watch) to complete the distinguished look.
“Promenading” guests are also invited to enjoy a special Spring Ball featuring 19th century ballroom and period music. For those interested in learning some fancy footwork, talented dance instructors will demonstrate and teach various period dances that include ballroom and contra dance.
Event times on April 19 are: 10:45 a.m. — Easter Bonnet Promenade participants gather in front of the Sacramento History Museum, 101 I St. in Sacramento; 11 a.m. — Easter Bonnet Promenade begins; and 2 p.m. — Spring Ball begins in Stanford Gallery, 111 I St. in Sacramento. There is no cost for this event.
