Rhythm of the Dance celebrates the Irish

Driving beats and foot tapping music, one of the liveliest shows on the world stage today, “Rhythm of the Dance,” comes to Harris Center for the Arts. This incredible show celebrates both the rich history of Ireland as well as the art of Irish dance.

With a wonderful, gifted young cast of dancers, musicians and three Irish tenors, “Rhythm of the Dance” features live performances from the entire troupe.

This is a show that has won critical acclaim across four continents in 51 countries to more than 5 million fans. Now, after 12 years of showcasing the very best in Irish dance to the world, the show has undergone a process of renewal, re-invigorating the choreography and music to create an even more spectacular performance.

National Dance Company of Ireland: Rhythm of the Dance” will be performed on Monday, March 17 and Tuesday, March 18 at 7:30 p.m.

From the creation of “Rhythm of the Dance” in 1998 (initially the show was set up for a three-week tour of the United States) it has toured consistently internationally and is achieving greater critical acclaim year after year.

This wonderful show continues to evolve thanks to the constant striving for perfection by its director/producer, choreographer and composer to keep the show fresh and interesting so that audiences who attend performances regularly will always find some new and exciting elements within the program.

This two-hour dance and music extravaganza contains a wealth of Irish talent. The show is an inspiring epic, reliving the journey of the Irish Celts throughout history. Using modern art forms of dance and music, this richly costumed show marries the contemporary and the ancient.

“Rhythm of the Dance” blends the principle forms of Irish dance, step, set, old-style step and Sean-nós, re-invented and reworked to deliver the passion and beat for which this show is world renowned.

Combining traditional dance and music with the most up to date stage technology, the show is a thousand-year-old story executed with all the advantages of the modern-day stage show.

Tickets are priced at $25 to $39 and premium $49 and are available online at harriscenter.net or from the Harris Center ticket office at 916-608-6888 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and two hours before show time. Parking is included in the price of the ticket.
