Sac State presents a day of art

What a day for art at California State University, Sacramento. Thursday, Dec. 5, will bring an abundance of art department events to the campus.

“Flor y canto: Poets’ Tribute to José Montoya” will be held from 7-10 p.m. in Solano Hall 2002. Participating poets will read works honoring the late Sac State professor who was a pioneering Chicano artist, musician and former Sacramento poet laureate. The event was organized by Art Professor Elaine O’Brien and Andrea “YaYa” Porras.

That Thursday also will be the final day of the annual fall Ceramics Guild sale in the Kadema Hall Breezeway. The Dec. 3-5 sale will coincide with the Ceramics Guild exhibit in the Robert Else Gallery through Dec. 12. And there will be a 6 p.m. reception for that show on Dec. 5 at the gallery.

Another reception will take place from 5-7 p.m. that night, for “Constant: Recent Works by Franceska Gamez and Shaun Brauner” in the Witt Gallery. That exhibit will be up Dec. 2-6.

Else and Witt gallery hours are noon to 4:30 p.m. The ceramics sale is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
