Leo’s Birthday Bash at the Sacramento Children’s Museum on Aug. 2 — The biggest party of the summer and a night of family fun celebrating its mascot, Leo’s, birthday. Activities include carnival games, face painting, dancing and the very first appearance of Leo. The event raises funds for all of the exhibits, programming and activities for the Children’s Museum. Sojourner Truth’s Banana Festival at William Land Park is Aug.9 and 10.
The fifth annual Sacramento Banana Festival is an exciting two-day festival that kicks off with a 5k run/walk on Saturday. Guests can enjoy a fun-filled weekend with food, exciting live entertainment and special exhibits. The event benefits the National Academic Youth Corp., which provides art and educational programs for more than 15,000 local youth and adults every year, as well as for a dozen other worthy local charities. Hands on History: Commemorating 175 Years at Sutter’s Fort on Aug. 16. The community is invited to a very special “Hands on History: Commemorating 175 Years” event at Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park. In addition to commemorative activities, special guests and interpretive presentations, a variety of hands-on activities will be available that day. Plus, Gold Rush era weapons will be on display and guests can see weaponry demonstrations in-action including the crowd-favorite firing of Sutter’s cannon. For more information visit suttersfort.org.
Also on Aug. 16 is the Ice Cream Safari at the Sacramento Zoo. Don’t miss the 30th annual Ice Cream Safari where guests can enjoy unlimited Baskin Robbins Ice Cream in cones, sundaes and floats along with Coca-Cola beverages. Plus, guests can explore the 14-acre zoo with ice cream treats around every corner with special activities and live entertainment, too.
