Placerville is a city that is rich in history and is also rich in talent. Whether it is music, theater or the visual arts Placerville has many talented residents.
Proof of this can be seen at Powell’s Steamer Company and Pub, 425 Main St. in Placerville.
On Wednesday nights El Dorado County’s finest songwriters come out to play.
Called “open mic” nights, Larry Park, one of the hosts, prefers to call it a “songwriter’s showcase” because of the many talented individuals who have made Powell’s the place to be on a Wednesday night.
Park is an Academy of Country Music Award Winner.
Val Pease, local musician, joins Park in the hosting duties where both the public and local songwriters can connect and enjoy what each has to offer.
The music is diverse and ranges across many genres.
The cast of characters at Powell’s even includes a harmonica playing waitress who sometimes stays after her shift to share some tunes with Park and Pease and other well regarded local musicians.
There is no cover charge to play or listen. Music starts around 7:30 p.m.
