Soroptimist grant winner

On Wednesday, April 10, Soroptimist International of Placerville, an international volunteer organization for business and professional women, will present Robin Chronister with its Women’s Opportunity Award at 6 p.m. at the Red Hawk Casino Waterfall Buffet.

Chronister will receive a $2,500 cash award which will allow her to continue her education — improving the life of herself and her family.

Chronister’s application will be submitted for further judging at the Soroptimist district level. If she should win at that level then it will be submitted to the regional level. The first place award at the regional level is $5,000 and runners-up are awarded $3,000.

The Soroptimist Women’s Opportunity Awards program provides women with cash grants to offset costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education and additional skills training. Awardees must be head-of-household women seeking to improve their lives with the help of additional education and training. Last year more than $1.5 million dollars was disbursed through this award-winning program.

Founded in 1939, Soroptimist International of Placerville is part of Soroptimist International of the Americas. Its mission is to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world. Placerville members join with almost 95,000 Soroptimist in about 120 countries and territories worldwide to contribute time and financial support to community-based projects benefiting women.

For more information about how Soroptimist International of Placerville improves the lives of women and girls contact club president Kaye Culver at 530-344-1476.
