Spaghetti dinner to help Ben

By From page B10 | October 28, 2013

Ben Yurkovic is a happy 6-year-old boy. He had made lots of friends in Kindergarten last year at Pinewood Elementary and was looking forward to starting first grade.

Sadly, Ben has not been able to join his classmates in school even once this year. The Yurkovic family’s life drastically changed on July 7 when Ben was diagnosed with cancer, rhabdomyosarcoma in his spine.

Since then he has been in and out of the hospital undergoing both chemotherapy and radiation treatments to shrink the tumor.

Ben’s family lives in Pollock Pines but Ben receives his treatment at Sutter Memorial Hospital in Roseville. As can be imagined, travelling up and down the hill several times a week is placing a huge financial burden on the family.

With not enough money for gas, food, bills and medical expenses, friends have planned a fundraiser to help the Yurkovic family.

On Friday, Nov. 1 there will be a Spaghetti Feed at Pinewood School, 6181 Pine St. in Pollock Pines. The spaghetti dinner is from 5 – 8 p.m.

Tickets are limited for the dinner itself but everyone is invited to come and participate in the raffle and silent auction. There are many amazing prizes and some delicious baked treats and crafts to win.

Tickets are being sold in advance and are available at both Pinewood Elementary and Sierra Ridge Middle School, 2700 Amber Trail in Pollock Pines, and at Kiddlywinks Children’s Store, 262 Main St. in Placerville.

Tickets are $5 per person. A limited amount of tickets may be sold at the door. Donations are welcome and can be given at the fundraiser or at Pinewood School anytime. All of the proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the Yurkovic family.

Contact Pinewood School at 530-644-2384 with any questions or to help out.
